Well, I can respond to this in two different ways.
In terms of evaluating the characters on their own merits, Aang. I love Carmen, and she’s a pretty great person for being a villain (in the cartoon and Treasures of Knowledge canons, anyway), but she’s not as much of a sweetie, nor is she as cute or as heroic.
But in terms of their effects on my life, it’s absolutely Carmen. Carmen not only fueled (and still fuels) a lot of my learning; she’s one of my top rolemodels, and she was a friend for me when I had no others. In fact, even though she’s fictional, she’s probably the truest friend I’ve ever had (which may say more about me than her, but whatever). I wrote a little more about my connection to her here if you’re interested (which you probably don’t, but).
